Beginner Irish Step Dancing!
Classes start with soft shoe movements, steps, dances (both solo and group) and technique. Once a dancer has the basics, we will integrate more advanced movements and start hard shoe teachings.
Irish Step is one of the original dances that contributed to tap and has a long history.
For the tots program, parents are welcome to participate with their littles.
Two ages groups:
Tots - Ages 2-4
Ages 5+
Ballet slippers (tots) or ghillies required.
This class is taught by Sara Gutis at her SG Irish Dance Academy.
Instructor Bio:
Sara has been an Irish Dancer for over 25 years. She started competing and assistant teaching within her first year of dancing, becoming a nationally ranked Ceili dancer early on in her competitive career as well as competing as a solo dancer, always placing well, all over the country, before she made the decision to teach on her own.
Sara has studied Irish Dance with local schools and with large name dancers in special classes in NYC and Ireland. Today, she is a qualified teacher (TCRG) with the Ireland-based organization Cumman Rince Gaelach (CRG). Additionally, Sara is the North American representative of CRG, an examiner, and judge.
Not only does Sara own and run the SG Academy of Irish Dance in Connecticut, but for the last 15 years she has also been a high school Special Education teacher as well as holding several other degrees. Finally, her greatest achievement is being a mother to two boys (who are four and six years old).
