Looking for a creative outlet that can also serve as a memory saver? Let's make a Junk Journal! This class will teach you how to make a beautiful keepsake that you can use for journaling, holding items that offer memories, or just a unique decorative piece!
A junk journal is a homemade book made of junk paper materials. These are usually items that are discarded after their initial use, such as packaging materials, card board, junk mail envelopes, old receipts, postcards, paper shopping bags, ticket stubs, book pages, parchment paper, tea bags, tissue paper, etc. The older the papers, the better!
Students will learn how to construct a junk journal, including signatures, cover/spine, different methods of binding, and how to incorporate elements that allow for an interactive journal!
Materials for the class can be found at home and some will be provided by the instructor. Potential materials include distressed papers, envelopes, packaging materials, parchment paper, old newspapers, receipts, cardboard, etc. Some materials may need to be purchased such as glue, thread, fabric, stickers, stamps, and inks. The options for materials are up to the author and participants will learn all about the options in the first class.
Instructor Ninka Giraudet is a Brookfield resident and has been making beautiful paper crafts in general and junk journals in particular for more than 20 years.
