Drawing is a learned skill, like learning to drive or mastering a sport. The drawings we will do in class will provide the concepts and experience needed to develop the component skills for drawing. Learning how to "see as an artist sees” will inspire confidence and lead to successful results.
In addition to some sessions where we will draw from life, we will begin with a number of drawing assignments from a workbook, entitled Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Workbook, Second Edition, by Betty Edwards.
Participants should purchase this workbook by the second class. The workbook is available on Amazon, by clicking here. These exercises are especially designed to help the student learn the basics.
Each student will need to bring their own copy of the workbook to class.
The book also begins with three Pre-instruction drawing assignments,
so it would be useful to obtain a copy and complete those prior to the class session. Looking back on these drawings after completing the class should be very gratifying. Be fearless!
By the end of the course, the student should be able to plan and draw a successful still life of some of their favorite things.
